AFAIK, it is still one of the smallest buffered interfaces. Throughput was reduced by this and if all 512 channels were sent the refresh rate is about 15Hz. Since it is open source, other people have built compatible versions that are more suited to DIY.
The original Windows USB driver was written for XP but I believe it has been ported to more recent Windows releases. My Windows 7 64bit Notebook isnt able to find a matching USB-Driver for my DVC Gold DMX 512 USB adapter. (6) Drivers for Windows and Linux and Macintosh. OLA supports some older devices through the legacy DMX4Linux project.
